WikiSpam is a wikiwide problem. It won't be solved but wikiwide, or in another words is a growing threat to wiki projects. Because Wikis are inherently open to being edited, they are largely vulnerable to link spam, especially if that can be hidden. For example, it is possible in a lot of wikis to embed html through a wiki ignore tag. Unless an editor takes the time to look through the code, it is possible to embed a link.
Like all link spam, wiki spam is still not useful unless the spammer gets in their backlink. This makes it vulnterable to LinkSleeve. Any automated attempt to edit a large number of wikis and enter in a particular link or url will be caught by LinkSleeve, if the affected wikis are using the free plug-in. Moreover, if link spam is being tried across several products, and the spammer tries to move to Wiki Spam, it will still not be effective. Of course, it still requires that you, and the community at large, uses LinkSleeve to stop the wiki spam.
These spammers add links to wikis, blogs, bulletin boards, and guestbooks so their Google page rank goes up. We need to all help keep an eye on this at all wikis and help clean it up where we can. WikiSpam in general is described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog_spam.
